Monday 8 March 2010Ambitious offshore project kicks off
On 3 March, a kick-off event in the west Jutland port city of Esbjerg, involving Offshore Center Denmark and a number of collaboration partners, will mark the start of an ambitious project designed to strengthen the Danish offshore industry and create new jobs.
"We have had amazing interest in the project, with 126 sign-ups to the kick-off event. Offshore Center Denmark is already working with 40 collaboration partners to prepare for starting the project", Marianne Tølbøll, project coordinator at Offshore Center Denmark, told the Danish Energy Associations daily newsletter.
The 'Energy at Sea' project is a three year undertaking which aims to create at least 7,000 new jobs in the offshore industry by 2020. In this connection, there is an additional aim of encouraging more youngsters to train in the professional areas needed by the offshore sector.
According to Marianne Tølbøll, DKK 36 million will be invested in the project to create the best conditions for one of Denmark's most significant industries - the energy sector.
The overall 'Energy at Sea' project will contain a number of sub-projects, including a project to create growth in the number of offshore wind turbines, a project to increase the numbers of suitably trained students entering the offshore industry, and a project to remove barriers to SMEs, who often experience difficulties to gain the attention of the oil companies operating in the North Sea.
