Graduates aim for project excellence

Aberdeen-based offshore pipeline specialist BJ Services has launched a second graduate qualification programme aimed at equipping students for project management roles in the oil and gas industry.

A total of 22 BJ employees from the UK, the US, Canada, Australia West Africa, the Middle and Far East rolled up for the an initial introduction to the course at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen where they will study four 12-week modules covering project fundamentals, managing change, commercial realities for project management, plus strategy and leadership.

The course – the second graduate certificate in project management programme run by BJ -  is  equivalent to a Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level of an ordinary degree and is recognised throughout Europe.

Originally the course was pioneered in February last year through collaboration between BJ, the university's commercial Univation, and Aberdeen Business School.

“In July 2010, the process and pipeline services group could have more than 30 of our engineering and management staff with the equivalent of a degree in Project Management,” declared Les Graves, product line manager for BJ Services. “The benefits to our clients, and the way it will differentiate us from our competitors will be fantastic,” he said.
