Rosebank: More studies

Sevan Marine revealed it has been awarded a design study contract for the significant Rosebank discovery in the UK West of Shetlands region. Work will be carried out in the second half this year focusing on how one of the Sevan Marine round-hulled floating production platforms could be used to tap the Rosebank discovery.

Hull sizing and configuration will be a key part of the work, along with topsides engineering, mooring design, plus motion stability and analysis. Other areas of the study will include marine operations on a Sevan Marine hull at the Rosebank location, plus risk identification, and the provision of estimates for the cost and delivery scheduling of a Sevan Marine hull. The move is a clear signal by Chevron North Sea of the way its thinking is moving with regard towards development Rosebank with a floating production-based solution.

Earlier this year Chevron also awarded another Rosebank related contract to engineering consultant Worley Parsons covering facilities engineering services, which encompasses evaluation of field development options. That contract, announced in May, will be carried out by WorleyParson'sIntecSea, with Chevron's Rosebank project manager Stuart Klein saying at the time that the work would help refine development options. Chevron's partners in Rosebank include Statoil, OMV and DONG Energy.

Rosebank was discovered in August 2004 with the 213/27-1z well, and three appraisal wells have been drilled since in block 213/26 and 205/1 to further define the structure, which included a successful test of the southern extent of the field with the 205/1-1 well which flowed at up to 6,000 b/d of 37 degree API oil.

Earlier this year, Chevron drilled a Rosebank North appraisal well, 213/27-3, with the Stena Carron drillship, operating 11 km (6.87 miles) north from the original deepwater find.
