Monday 7 March 2011Scotland’s Energy Skills Investment Plan to create 28,000 offshore wind jobs
Scotland’s new Energy Skills Investment Plan is anticipated to create close to 28,000 job opportunities in the offshore wind sector alone.
Last week, the country’s government announced that it will make up to £1m in funding available to provide 500 modern apprenticeships in the low carbon and wider energy sector this year.
The skills investment plan is anticipated to provide for up to 95,000 potential jobs throughout its course.
Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond said, ‘The economic opportunity in renewables is clear – with the value of the sector in Scotland now estimated to rise from £2.6bn in 2007 and 2008 to as much as £3.2bn by 2014.
‘The wider low carbon market is expected to rise from around £8.5bn in 2007 and 2008 to £12bn by 2016 – over ten per cent of the Scottish economy.’
