DONG awarded Anholt windfarm work

The Danish Energy Agency has awarded DONG Energy the concession to build the next major offshore windfarm in Denmark off the Danish island of Anholt in the Kattegat.

The construction of the windfarm will represent a total investment of approximately DKK 10 billion.

With a capacity of 400MW, the windfarm will be able to supply CO2-free power corresponding to the annual power consumption of more than 400,000 Danish households, or four per cent of Denmark's power consumption.

“Building Anholt offshore wind farm is an important milestone in the expansion of green energy production in Denmark. DONG Energy is therefore happy to build Denmarks next large wind farm,” said Anders Eldrup, CEO of DONG Energy. "Building Anholt offshore wind farm will bring DONG Energy a major step closer  towards the vision of supplying energy without CO2.”

Siemens Wind Power will deliver the turbines that will have a capacity of 3.6MW each.

According to the tender specifications, the windfarm must supply its first power by the end of 2012, and the entire windfarm is due to be commissioned by the end of 2013.
