Monday 26 January 20094 companies on best workplaces list
Four Oklahoma companies are included in Fortune magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For."
The list released Thursday shows Oklahoma City-based Devon Energy Corp. at No. 13. It was also on the list last year.
Tulsa-based Quik Trip was ranked as the 27th best company to work for. It was the seventh straight appearance on the list for the regional chain of convenience stores and travel centers.
American Fidelity Assurance Co. of Oklahoma City was ranked 46th. American Fidelity is one of the nation's largest private, family-owned life insurance companies and this was its sixth consecutive appearance on the list.
Chesapeake Energy Corp. of Oklahoma City was ranked 73rd. Fortune selected Chesapeake for the second straight year.
To pick companies for the list, Fortune works with the Great Place to Work Institute a global research and consulting firm with offices in 30 countries to conduct an extensive employee survey.
More than 81,000 employees from 353 companies responded to the 57-question survey created by the institute.
Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the survey, which is sent to a minimum of 400 randomly selected employees. The remaining third is based on a company's responses to the Culture Audit questionnaire, which asks detailed questions about demographics, pay and benefits, and open-ended questions on philosophy, communication and more.
