Monday 29 March 2010Teesside firm announces 100 new wind energy jobs
Up to 100 new jobs are being created by a Teesside firm which makes foundations for wind turbines.
TAG Energy Solutions says the number of jobs could rise to 400 if it secures further orders at its base at Haverton Hill, near Billingham.
Regional development agency One North East has offered the firm a £1.5m grant so it can bid for £500m worth of work in the offshore wind sector.
The company already employs 33 people making support sections for turbines.
Chief executive Alex Dawson said the firm had ambitious expansion plans.
He said: "The two principle challenges facing offshore wind are an absolute shortage of supply capacity and a need to significantly reduce costs.
"Our proposed facility will make a significant contribution to the solution for both of these concerns.
"The local skills base in this type of work is second to none and this welcome development will bring much needed jobs to the region."
